Over the last 10 years, satellite dish
TV subscribers have had a significant increase over cable subscribers. According
to J.D. Powers and Associates 2005, “Satellite TV Satisfaction Study”, satellite dish TV subscribers had a dramatic
increase last year. The study reports twenty-seven percent households are satellite
dish TV subscribers which are up nineteen percent from last year. Currently sixty
percent of households are cable subscribers which are down two percent from last year and six percent from the year
2000.
Based on J.D. Power’s reviews of
cable and satellite dish tv, the monthly average cost for satellite TV service continues to cost less than cable. Both satellite TV and cable service providers promote digital video recorders (DVR). The study currently reported only twelve percent of customers own a DVR system, but forty-one percent
say they are likely to in the future, and of the twenty-two percent of DVR owners use Tivo DVR systems.
Although satellite dish TV has continued
to make gains in the competing market with cable, for the first time in four years a cable company has ranked number one in
customer satisfaction. For three consecutive years, Directv previously has won
the J.D. Power’s Award for customer satisfaction. This year, cable provider
WOW (Wideopen West) ranks number one in customer satisfaction , while Directv and Dish Network follows close behind. Although satellite dish TV providers have overall customer satisfaction, they need
to keep improving their customer service to the highest level in order for them to continue to keep attracting customers.
The J.D. Powers reviews of cable and satellite
dish tv study was based upon survey responses from 11,586 U.S. households who evaluated their satellite TV or cable
TV providers. For more information on J.D. Powers and ratings of satellite TV
